How Big is Anheuser-Busch/InBev?

07/22/09, by Kate Hopkins Email 2406 views • Categories: Beer

Anheuser-Busch/InBev is huge. There's simply no denying it. But how huge is huge? Let's take a moment to compare it against two other beer companies, and some of their brands.

Okay... so that's a lot of beer. But let's take a look at A-B/InBev's Catalog (And note, it's likely that I've missed a few). Take special note to find out what beer you thought was independently or privately owned is actually run by these guys. For example, I did not know that Alexander Keith's, Bass, and Kokonee were all InBev products.

Wow, ABInBev owns Shock Top, Franziskaner, and Hoegaarden, three of my favorite wheat beers. Goes to show that the big guys can make great beer when they want to.

I assume that's only a partial list of beers for each brewery since I've noticed a few missing, but still, that's a lot of different beers.

You missed Brahma from Brazil, which was actually the original brand/company that later bought Antarctica and several others to create AmBev, which later joined forces with another major European company to create InBev.

RT, the big guys don't make great beer, they bought other breweries that do. We're then lucky if they don't proceed to ruin the beer because, inevitably, making good beer with character the traditional way is too expensive for the bankers.

Doublecheck Miller as a company overall. It can get a bit tricky to back trace to the parent but you might enjoy the chase.

I don't care how big they are, I care how big they taste. Seattle has some of the best, Georgetown, Elysian, Hale's, Pike. We are lucky.

Rick, I beg to differ. They can indeed make good beer, you just don't see it in your local kwik-e-mart.

We happen to have one of the largest AB breweries near us. One year, we received as a Chistmas present a bottle from someone who worked at the brewery. When I say bottle, I mean this was maybe a liter and a half glass jug. It was delicious. I think the label was along the lines of Anheuser-Busch Brewmaster seasonal something-or-other. a.k.a. it wasn't from some some subsidiary they bought out.

I'm not sure if this is something you can purchase on-site at the brewery seasonally, or if it's something only available to employees, and I've no idea what it cost, but it was good.

So, criticize them all you want for selling out, for choosing to sell cans of nasty nasty swill, but they most certainly do know HOW to make real beer.
