Whiskey and Beer writer Michael Jackson has passed away. At this moment, it's difficult to think of anyone who has done more to extol the virtues of grained ales and spirits in the past forty odd years.

I owe what knowledge I have of Single Malt Scotchs to the great Michael Jackson. It was a one hour class, and afterwards, even I could tell the subtleties of terroir & peat of the lowlands, and the heather & lichen of the highlands. I even respect and enjoy the iodine & sea salt of Talisker Isle of Skye.

I will raise a bittersweet toast to the life of this warm, funny man.
