News Not to Wake Up To - More Botulism?

08/06/07, by Kate Hopkins Email 1485 views • Categories: Food Health and Safety

For thirty years botulism was not an issue within this country. Thirty Years!

And now, within the last month we have our second botulism warning. This time it's French Cut Green Beans in 14.5 ounce cans manufactured by Lakeside Foods Inc, of Manitowoc, Wisconsin.

I just published a post about disinfecting herbs before conserving them in vinegar, especially when the acidity content is not very high and most people poopooed my post or were frankly astonished. Incredible how we no longer have the werewithall to understand that bacteria can be airborne and lodge on herbs and vegetables grown in our oh-so-clean gardens. As for food producers, one has to wonder about hygiene in our western societies (not to mention in countries where stringent regulations are non existent or unenforced). Caveat emptor!

Reminds me of a wonderful scene from The Jerk. Something along the lines of, "It's the cans! They hate the cans !!!"
