This is a...Um..Super Bowl Party Menu?

02/03/06, by Kate Hopkins Email 1951 views • Categories: Web Finds

Dear StarChefs,

I openly mock the Brie and Pear Soup, Scallops Marinated in Citrus Juices and Asparagus Al Proscitto recipes that you have chosen for your Super Bowl Party Menu.

I mocketh thee, I mocketh thee, I mocketh thee.

Quick question: Do we need to hold out our pinky finger if we eat these dishes on Sunday?

Love always,

-Kate

I live around Pittsburgh & we've been having "Tailgate Parties" & "Foodfests" these last few weeks at work to support the Steelers. How a bunch of office workers putting on extra poundage helps the Steelers is beyond me, but I digress. I was just saying at work yesterday that I was thankful that when it comes to Football, I live in Western PA, because Sauerkraut & Kielbasa Sandwiches slathered in brown mustard go with football so much better than Salmon Mousse, Fiddlehead Ferns, etc. No offense Seattle, there's a time & place for your exquisite cuisine, but not at a football game.
Me, I'm having a few friends over. We're having Black & Gold Tortilla Chips, Pittsburgh Pretzels, & Pumpernickel Bread cubes with a Mexican Style Cheese Fondue, Snyders of Berlin Potato Chips AND Cheese Puffs (often referred to as Cheese Doodles), Saxonburg Bologna, sharp cheddar cheese, & Italian Sausage (Both hot & sweet) with peppers & onions.

OK, so I see that there are those insane reccomendations from some chefs... but here is the menu... which seemed much more reasonable and less mock worthy!

LOL, how funny. I totally agree with you. I used to be a football widow and if I had served food like that when the boys were gathered in the house, I would have been eating of it alone! It was pizzas, pastas, burgers, sammiches and hot dogs all the way!

I'll be making a shrimp and citrus dish: Shrimp Escabeche with Blood Orange Mojo, which I made for a dinner party in December, and which was snarfed down instaneously by the crowd of 14. But it's not fancy: you eat it with tortilla chips!

I just hope it's a shoot-out on the offense, and not the clash of the defenses. I want a high-scoring game!

Reminds me of Super Bowl menu a former sous chef did for his family in Colorado. Suffice to say the tapenade was not well received.
