2005 FBA: Call for nominations: Best Non-Blogging Food Site

12/05/05 @ 08:00:00 am, by Kate Hopkins Email 615 views • Categories: Nominations

This category is for the one site we all go to that deals with food. It can be corporate if you wish, or it could be run by one guy out of a garage in southwest Peru. It just has to be food related, and not be a blog. Please put your nominations for this category in the comment section of this post only!

The winner of this category will receive a Digital Scale provided by the good folks at CalorieLab.

The Call for Nominations will close at Midnight on Friday, December 16 2005 Pacific Standard Time.

Gernot Katzer's Spice Pages. The content is rather static, but there's no better reference for spices anywhere.

OK, I will add a second that did not fit in the city blog since it is not a blog but more of a forum - LTHForum, the best Chicago restaurant and food site out there.

I am fond of http://www.eatingchinese.org/

There is a blog on the site, but mostly it is a forum, and has a lot of links to very useful links and resources for Chinese food and food culture.

I would like to nominate my friend Jenn's site, www.skinnychef.com. She is an amazing person that cherishes everything about food and sharing it with friends and family. Her passion really comes through on her site.

Chowhound - the content isn't static, but it isn't actually a blog, either.

This is the best food site out there for serious foodies. Reviews are updated every month with interesting culinary adventures, carefully written to recreate the experience of every bite. A+

The best site out there for recipes (and it is not a blog) is at www.allrecipes.com.

They let you rate the recipes and give them reviews, so if 100 people tried it and gave it a review, you can see what they thought. They might provide suggestions about changing ingredients, quantities or cooking times. They are often extremely helpful. I don't think I'd cook another recipe again if I didn't have someone's opinion about the finished product.

MouthfulsFood.com, a forum, is a community of over seven hundred foodies scattered around the globe, many of whom you knew/know from eGullet and food blogs. The level of intelligence is high, and the regional forums are great.

No politics or religion, but we don't seem to miss them.

It's the best food community I've found, outside the blogosphere. It embodies the best of foodies in general: generous-spirited, intelligent, and helpful. And not the kind of place where you have to deal with the power trips of management.

A big thumbs up: I've been a member for over a year.

Waitrose Food Section
This is a great resource, especially for recipes. There is even an online version of their wonderful food magazine. What I love about them, and what sets them apart from the rest of the non-blogging crowd, is that just like bloggers, they put links in all over the place so you have further reading material and references easily at your fingertips.

What the heck, I'll nominate myself:

FoodieView Recipe Search Engine http://www.foodieview.com

And also since I don't feel quite as spammy, here's another nomination. I've looked at a *lot* of recipe sites over the last year, and my favorite recipe site that no one seems to know about is Pai Kin Khao. It's kind of like Haute Thai cuisine (I hesitate to call it fusion). It's a beautiful site with unique recipes. Check it out:
