Dr. Pepper vs. Dr. Pepper

On the right-hand side of the above picture you'll see a version of Dr. Pepper that's only available in a 44 mile radius outside Dublin, Texas. What makes that Dr. Pepper so unique? It's still made with cane sugar instead of High Fructose Corn Syrup. I ordered a case of the stuff directly from the bottler.

There's a bit of history for the reason that they sell cane sugar Dr. Pepper while everyone else in the States doesn't. The legal agreement required that Dublin Bottling Works to guarantee the quality of Dr Pepper to be pure and wholesome. The owner of the bottling plant decided that using HFCS would make an 'imitation' Dr. Pepper.

Now it may seem unique and even "exotic" that the Dublin Dr. Pepper hasn't changed the intial recipe. But the real test is in tasting. How does the Dublin Dr. Pepper compare against the "regular" Dr. Pepper?

My friend Shelley, who claims that she has no palate, immediately tasted the difference. The original is not as sweet, not as carbonated, not as syrupy, and doesn't have an extended aftertaste.

If you haven't guessed already, I'm a fan of the Dublin Dr. Pepper. *shrug* Call me a traditionalist.

That is so cool! I've heard that you can get cane sugar Coca-Cola around Passover time. As a Coke connoisseur, I need to try that!

My wife and I had a Dr. Pepper in London during a recent trip. I had a swig and was instantly knocked off my feet. One look to the label revealed what my taste buds had discovered seconds earlier...that British Dr. Pepper is also sweetened with the real thing.

We in the rest of the US live a poor existence without it.

As soon as I read this post I told my husband about it. He loves Dr. Pepper, but he doesn't often buy it. We love soft drinks made with cane sugar. The Mercury Bottling Company is near us, and the local convenience store carries its soft drinks. The Mercury Bottling Company uses cane sugar to make its soft drinks. There is no high-fructose corn syrup in them. You can definitely taste the difference.

I bookmarked the Dr. Pepper site. When my husband is ready to quench his Dr. Pepper craving, he'll buy the sugar cane variety.

I'm a big coke drinker and never has liked Dr. Pepper but last year I travelled to Brownwood Texas wich is close to Dublin and as I left my sister gave me a cold Dr. Pepper so I would have something to drink on the way back home , about 60 miles out I open it and took a drink and was ready to turn around and go back to buy a couple of cases . This Christmass I had my sister bring me 2 cases and wished I had the nerve to asked her to bring me more than that .

Dublin Dr Pepper is the best. Unfortunatly you can not purchase bottles from the Dublin from California. The reason is the paint on the bottles is known to the sate of California to have lead and potentially can cause birth defects. The funny thing is they sell mexican coke and pepsi here that has the same stuff. You can buy it from other web sites, but it is more expensive. I think like everything else in this state politicians are over reacting.
You can still buy it in cans, but who want's that? California sucks.
