i prefer to see it as land of culinary innovation of a very specialized kind. don't like it? don't eat it. but criticizing/shaming other for their likes/dislikes accomplishes nothing.

we had a deep fried cheesecake on our menu for a few weeks -- it was fried with a champagne tempura batter, strawberry coulis and balsamic vinegar reduction. it flew out the door.

people are going to like what they want. i never thought i'd eat a fried pickle but man, they are highly addictive.

I've actually sought out deep fried snickers bars. Overly sweet, but good for the first bite or three.
