One Reason (of many) why I dislike Kraft

02/09/05, by Kate Hopkins Email 3189 views • Categories: Food

The intial title of this post was "Why I hate Kraft", which I suppose is a bit harsh. I've strong feelings against this multinational corporation, and some would say that this is a bit irrational on my part. So in my own defense, I figured I would, from time to time, provide specific reasons for my distaste for most of what Kraft stands for.

There were many reasons I could choose from, and I'll leave those for another time. This reason is more of an appetizer, perhaps an Apéritif if you will.

Below is a picture I've taken feature a hunk of cheese. This particular cheese is called 'Morbier Perrin'. This cheese is creamy and complex. It's not as soft as Brie, not as sharp as Bleu, and not as hard as Parmesan. It's one of my favorite Cow's Milk Cheese

All or nothing might be a bit arch. In our house we could say it’s three out of four, not bad after all. We all have preferred meal or tradition. My wife likes something different at every meal, I like chicken on Sunday, my six year old, like you, prefers the Sunday baguette with a selection of two or three good cheeses and pate and my nine year old likes Kraft diner for Saturday lunch. Not everyone likes this Kraft cheese but some do.

The point is not that one product is superior to the other. Quality is a vague term will differ for a variety of reasons, including economic and cultural.

The point here is that Kraft creates this fluroscent orange powder and has the audacity to call it "cheese"

In all fairness, which was missing from your article on "One Reason (Of Many) Why I Dislike Kraft" you show a picture of an orange powder substance that you claim Kraft calls 'cheese' and it is supported in a note from Kate who calls it a 'fluorescent orange powder'.

However, one thing you are falling short of is due diligence. Kraft does not call it cheese, it is quite clearly noted on the label (I actually went and got a box from my neighbour) that it's called 'CHEESE SAUCE MIX'.

Now, Kraft is not one of my favorite manufactures of food products, however, there is no excuse for 'fluorescent yellow journalism' either.

Canadian food labelling agrees: This is not Cheese, that's why they call it KD or Kraft Dinner in Canada.

And I existed for a while on this when I last moved, and not even with Salad does it taste good.

I agree with you 100% (after having read the reply post and then bouncing over to this one). For me, it's not even that it isn't "cheese," it's that it has been processed into oblivion to remove all pleasures of actual cheese.

When I take the time to bake a real macaroni and cheese, with real cheese, it's creamy, rich, and delicious; there are the browned bread crumbs and the little bits of browned cheese around the edges to compliment the inner goodness. KD offers up a much different experience of weak little noodles tossed in a thin, overly salty sauce that never *quite* gets mixed all together, creating small explosions of fluorescent cheese powder in your mouth coupled with an all-round slightly gritty texture. When I compare the two, it's no contest which is really macaroni and cheese and which is... well, an abomination to good eating.
