2004 Food Blog Award Nominees!!

12/20/04 @ 02:42:30 pm, by Kate Hopkins Email 6233 views • Categories: 2004 Food Blog Awards, Nominations

The results have been tabulated. Decisions have been made. And we have a list of nominees for the of hopefully many Food Blog Awards.

The response for the Call for Nominations has been more than I could have wished. Over 700 comments gave over 800 nominations. In all honesty, had we recieved half these numbers, I would have considered this a success. What this tells me is that we love our food, and we love our sites.

Below the cut is the final list of the 2004 Food Blog Award Nominations. Voting for these nominees will take place in the next few days when a voting poll will be posted. The voting will go from when the post is made, until midnight Dec 31st, 2004. Winners will be announced no later than Jan 8th, 2005.

A little about how the list of nominations were determined: The plan called for five nominees in each of the sixteen categories, pulled from the sites nominated most often in the comments. In case of a tie, it was my own choice that broke any tie. My decisions were based off of the following criteria (in no particular order):

  • Exposure: If the choice was between one site that had already had a final five position in another category vs. one who had not yet been nominated, I chose the one not yet nominated.
  • Best example of a category: In some instances, I picked the site which I felt best typified the category in which the site was nominated. This happened most often in "Best Theme" or "Best City" type of categories.
  • Quality: Granted, I was using my own definition of quality, but often it was easy to see whp put more time and or effort into their site.

Will this please everyone? Probably not, but it was the best I could do given the constraints I had imposed upon this process. If anyone wishes to dispute my choices, feel free to e-mail me at Kate AT accidentalhedonist DOT com.

And, as always, if you want to sponsor a prize or two, feel free to contact me and I'll set it up.

And now, what you all have been waiting to read...

Thank you Kate for organising this event. I, and I'm certain the food blogging community in general, appreciates all the time and effort you've expended on this.

I'm truly surprised to even be mentioned, let alone make it to the final nomination list. Ditto - I share Mik's sentiments as well. My blog pales in comparison to the others. To be honest, it's not even a blog of restaurant reviews.

I'm just happy to have discovered so many new foodie blogs from this. Good luck to everyone. And happy eating!

Thanks so much for putting all this together, Kate--what a tremendous amount of work it's turned out to be, but what a happy sign that is. Like those who posted before me, I'm thrilled that my infant blog is a finalist. Good luck to everyone!

I really didnt think I would make it to one final, let alone two. I am so honoured to be nominated by several complete strangers in the Restaurant section. Thank you readers! My food blog started simply as a vehicle for me to write restaurant reviews. I did it for 3 months without even realising that other blogs, or indeed food blogs existed. I had an audience of just about 10 people only. Since my discovery of the wonderful food blog community (that's all of you) everything has escalated. I am honoured to be in such great company, not only with the finalists, but also with all the other wonderful food blogs out there that didn't make it, but are just as deserving.

Louisa Chu's Moveable Feast is the most exciting blog on food. It is a no-punches pulled view from the trenches of the haute cuisine world. Rather than list endless expensive meals, she goes behind the scenes and explains how the meals are made. After reading her posts I want to remove my shoes and scrape the kitchen refuse into the rubbish bin as I check my hands for nicks and burns. Go on girl! The only problem is that she keeps us waiting for the next instalment. Moveable Feast is the "24" of the food internet. Waiting for a new post is half the fun.

Thank you Lori. Please make your votes count by using the poll that will be in the right column of this web site. Yes, that poll is only for Restaurant reviews, but completing it allows for links to all the other polls in succession.

I am suprised you didn't list roadfood.com as one of the best Non-Blogging Food Sit. It was voted as "site of the year" by Yahoo!

Hog on Ice.com isn't on the humor list? What a joke. "Eat What You Want and Die Like a Man" is hilarious and filled with great recipes. I'm out of here...

(sound of your site being un-bookmarked)

I believe that hog on ice didn't receive enough nominations to make the cut. It's as simple as that.
